Fever Dreams and Their Purpose
}

Even psychics get sick.

Fever dreams, however, are a silver lining.

There’s nothing worse than a summer cold or flu than having a summer cold or flu is South Florida. Even with the air conditioning blasting, the air is thick and muggy.

I was pushing myself too hard. I had an influx of orders, and instead of taking my time, I was staying up at all hours (for me, midnight is way too late!), pushing myself, and I got sick.

Ever had fever dreams?

I’ve written about dreams before, but not in any particularity. Fever dreams, I have found, aren’t just products of the fever, but rather a fever for the mind. What I mean is that while a fever is helping the body kill intruders and purge it of toxins, the mind is also having a fever, purging it of intruders and toxins. That’s why they’re vivid and often terrifying.

However, the kind of dream you will have is still the product of the mind-body connection. A body in discomfort is a mind in discomfort, and a mind in discomfort is a body in discomfort. Thus, why you never get to have a fever dream where all your wishes come true and everything is beautiful.

What do they mean?

One of the most common type of fever dream is being chased or harassed by supernatural forces. For example, a lot of people who come were raised Christian dream that they’re being hunted or harassed by demons. Many may literally think that they are fighting a war in the supernatural realm in their sleep. However, this is rarely true because if a person is subject to demonic oppression, it’s happening in their waking life, too, and others can tell.

However, fever dreams about demons or monsters, or even being chased by a tornado or dark clouds are almost entirely internal, and that what is terrifying you is a product of your own mind. The fears and insecurities you stuff down, as well as memories and harsh truths you don’t want to face are being purged.

The silver lining?

The silver lining is that you get to face these things head-on. This is especially helpful for people who had traumatic childhoods, where they can only really face what happened to them because they have to relive it in a dream. You may either relive the trauma or experience something that seems like the trauma. You may also get the opportunity to watch your own memories as if you’re an impartial observer.

It hurts. I know that. However, if you consider that the dream — or nightmare — you have during a fever is a lot like the progression of an illness, you can see the purpose. Once your body is infected with a virus or bacteria, you don’t get “sick” right away. You don’t feel anything until those germs start releasing toxins, and your body reacts to them. You don’t get a fever until your body starts attacking those germs in attempt to kill them and flush them from your system.

However, you can be exposed to illness and never feel sick because the illness can stay in your body shield, or never pass a threshold where you succumb to full-on illness. It’s similar to trauma really: you don’t realize it’s as bad as it is until it’s inescapable, and you can stuff it down for a long time in an effort to keep going.

But it can still hurt you.

So the next time you’er sick and find yourself having fever dreams, let them come, and realize that your mind is purging, too.
