Moon signs are like the kid sister to sun signs. Most people know about sun signs, and most people know something about their own sun sign. However, there’s much more to astrology than 12 little sun signs.

What do Moon signs represent?

The Sun represents the personality, what a person wants to be in this lifetime. However, the Moon represent a person’s emotions and needs. These are instinctual things. Whereas our personalities are deliberate to some extent, because we choose how and when we express them, emotions aren’t. We can suppress a feeling, but we usually can’t avoid feeling a feeling or avoid having a need.

Thus, if you really want to know what makes a person tick, you need to know both the moon sign and the sun sign.

Moon Signs Summaries:

Here’s some quick descriptions of the Moon Signs:

Aries:

Aries Moon is child-like, perhaps even puppy-like. Feelings are sudden, explosive, but resolve quickly. They need to do what they want to do; this heart wears horse blinders. It needs to be the first and the only in some way.

Taurus:

The Moon is exalted in Taurus. Taurus Moon is sensual and very stubborn. Feelings take a long time to develop and only do so under the right conditions, but once there’s an emotion, it doesn’t go away.  It needs to be comfortable, to know that things will remain on an even keel.

Gemini:

Gemini Moon is intellectual and talkative. It needs to be in the loop, to be in the know. It expresses itself through talking with others, and all emotions are discussed or mentioned. It doesn’t keep secrets very well. It needs to share what it knows and thinks with anyone who will listen.

Cancer:

The Moon is the natural ruler of Cancer, and as such, Cancer Moon is the most natural expression of the Moon. Cancer Moon needs to nurture and be nurtured. Even men tend to be maternal in some way. They’re very demonstrative of their feelings, but are easily hurt and may lash out.

Leo:

Leo Moons are the quintessential drama queen. Emotions are over the top, attention-grabbing, and dramatic. They may use emotions to get attention. These people may define themselves, in some way, by their emotions.  What Leo Moon needs is to know that they’re fantastic and lovable just as they are.

Virgo:

Virgo Moon is self-effacing and servicing. Emotions are shown through service, by volunteering to help or demonstrating love through doing kind things. This Moon needs to know that it’s efficient and that it’s needed; it doesn’t need to be wanted so much as it needs to be needed.

Libra:

Libra Moon is a gentle, loving moon that needs to be reminded, repeatedly, that it’s lovely. There is strong need to please others and let them have what they want. Libra Moon thus may struggle to figure out what it needs for itself and how to ask for it.

Scorpio:

The Moon is in fall here. Scorpio Moon is intense and needs it all or none of it. Feelings are deep, but may be hidden to protect itself. This is the Moon that needs to transform and become something bigger than it when it’s alone. This Moon needs sex and intimacy.

Sagittarius:

Sagittarius Moon needs freedom to feel secure. It seems strange, but this moon’s instinct is to roam and to keep options open. It needs to keep things open to exploration. Heavy emotions, stubbornness, and dramatics either don’t phase it or send it packing.

Capricorn:

The Moon is in fall in Capricorn. Capricorn Moon generally denies healthy emotional expression.  It takes them a very long time to warm up, and even then, they worry about being abandoned. They need to be useful to someone.

Aquarius:

Aquarius Moon needs to intellectualize emotions, and to not really succumb to them. It wants to be better than it’s worst instincts, and that is it’s instinct: to find a way for everyone leave their animal nature behind. It needs to be relevant.

Pisces:

Pisces Moon is gentle, dreamy, and sensitive. It needs to be taken care of and protected. Pisces Moon tends to confuse it’s emotions with others. However, it’s also a highly psychic moon that needs to explore and dissolve its borders.
